Driffield Cents 32 v 0 Goole RUFC
Report by Harvey Nunn
Driffield enjoyed the bulk of territory, defended stoutly and ran in five tries whilst relishing the ideal playing conditions.
The first score came after just seven minutes and, at similar intervals, Goole missed a penalty, Driffield were shown a yellow card and they also kicked a penalty to give a half time score of 8-0 to the home side.
A minute into the second half, Jonathan Lane sped off untouched to score under the posts to give Driffield a 15-0 lead.
Next, Tom Lunn burst confidently through two tackles to score which saw kicker Will Norman’s conversion hit the left upright.
James Holland, in making another of his incisive runs, fed a good pass to James Hopwood to score in the right corner to give the home side a 25-0 lead.
In attack 10 metres out, Driffield gave a looping forward pass that was intercepted by the Goole winger who made 80 metres and provided one of their very few chances to score. They frequently ignored penalty kick attempts after their early failure.
Nine minutes from time, Chris Chapman’s determined run brushed aside several attempted tackles until two metres out, where he offloaded to Tim Atkinson who ran under the posts for a converted try to give a final score of 32-0 to the Woldsmen.
Dan Gowthorpe, playing his first game this season since breaking his collar bone back in April, showed good promise at full-back and made a splendid try-saving tackle that yielded turnover ball.[vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=”5" images=”643,642,641,640,639,638,637" img_size=”medium” title=”Driffield RUFC Cents Slideshow”][/vc[/vc_column][/vc_row]v class="sharedaddy sd-sharing-enabled">
