Ladies put in a five-star performance

Driffield Hockey Ladies 1st 5 v Boston Spa 1
A promising 5 – 1 win for the Ladies 1st team at home against Boston Spa this week.
With a slight change in formation, Driffield quickly settled and took an early lead with a goal from Gemma T.A solid defensive unit (H.Williams, C.Smith, A.Gate, A.Jackson and K.Measom) managed to hold off any counter attacks with the help of some relentless hard work from the midfield.
Driffield remained in control with some effective passing in the midfield. (V.Morgan, E.Barton, F.Tuplin, K.Morgan and G.Tuplin). This created space for the forwards to utilise their speed and skill which shortly paid off.
A dynamic run down the line from H.Langley with a cross to A.Kitching who was waiting eagerly on the post, took the score to 20. Continuous pressure by the Driffield forwards caused the Spa’s defence to crumble, giving away a number of penalty corners. The home side took full advantage, managing to convert two. The first, a strike from G.Tuplin and the second was a neatly placed deflection from E.Barton (who was delighted by her first goal of the season!).
Despite GK Lucy Wilson pulling off some fantastic saves, a momentary lapse in Driffield’s concentration saw Boston Spa capitalise what was to be their only goal of the game. Taking the score to 41 at half time.Spa came out fighting in the second half, unfortunately for them a stronger Driffield side remained on top. Some sensible play from the whole team enabled them to hold the lead until Spa got the final treatment from A.Kitching taking the score to 5-1.
