Victory for Steve 30 years to the day since his first win

Local farmer and rally driver Steve Bannister proved there is no substitute for experience after claiming victory in the 2015 Trackrod Rally Yorkshire last weekend. Steve, who has been competing in rallying for over 40 years, took his fourth victory in just six years on Sunday in the Trackrod Historic Cup for cars predating 1985.

He is the most successful driver in the event’s history and finished a huge margin of one minute and 50 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger Nick Elliott.“My co-driver Kevin Rae and I ex-pected a tough battle with the likes of Mathew Robinson, Jason Pritchard and Matt Edwards in the line-up,” Steve told the Wolds Weekly.“At the end of Friday night’s two stages I was only seven tenths of a sec-ond up on Mathew.

“On Saturday morning when the battle began again in Cropton Forest, Mathew came out 2.8 in front but in Dalby Forest, Mathew and Jason both left the road which left me with a commanding lead.“Thankfully I didn’t lose over the Langdale stages and ended up 1 min 50secs ahead of Nick Elliot.“It was 30 years to the day since I first won the Trackrod overall with Dave Old-field.

“To be the most successful driver ever on the Trackrod, with 3 outright wins and 4 Historic wins is very special.”Steve has finished 9th Overall in the 2015 Scottish Championship and 1st in the two-wheel drive and Historic class-es. He also won the Northern Historic Championship for the 3rd time alongside Louise Rae.

Steve would like to thank RSD, Son-tex, W Scruton Ltd and OXET for their continued support
