Young people are being asked for their views on setting up a new youth club in Burton Agnes.
A questionnaire has been distributed asking what sort of activities young people in and around the Parish would be interested in taking part in, with the aim of setting up a regular group at the Sports Club on Rudston Road.
Sports Club chairman Clive Neale is driving forward the idea with the support of Burton Agnes Parish Council.
He told the Wolds Weekly: “The idea of holding a youth club in the village has been discussed since the new Sports Clubhouse opened in 2011.
“When I first moved to the village eight years ago I spoke to some of the young people here and many of them expressed a feeling that there was nothing for them to do.
“Now we have this fantastic facility in the village and we really want to make more use of it. It has a bowling green, football pitch and cricket green, so there is plenty of space for young people to take part in activities outside, as well as being able to meet up socially inside with a games table and whatever other activities they would like to see put in place.”
The Sports Club and Parish Council are applying for a grant to fund the activities and are looking into installing broadband at the club to give the young people internet access.
Mr Neale added: “We are currently conducting a survey, which we have split between primary school aged children and those at secondary school, to try to find out their views on having a youth club.
“We hope this would be a youth group for the whole community and so in addition to villages in the Parish we are also aiming the questionnaire at young people from our neighbouring villages such as Haisthorpe, Rudston, Harpham and Kilham. Young people from further afield will also be more than welcome.
“The response has been quite limited to date. However, we hope as the word spreads, more young people will be in touch to tell us their views.”
