Driffield Town 1st XI made it back-to-back victories with a comfortable 88 run triumph over bottom of the table Dunnington at Kings Mill Road on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Dunnington elected to field first and they got off to a perfect start when they removed the Woldsmen’s dangerous opener Ben Dobson for just six.
Dobson’s dismissal brought Casey Rudd to the crease and alongside Ali Asad, he helped to get the home side’s innings back on track. The pair made 62 for the second wicket before Asad fell LBW to former Driffield captain Dave Brent for 42.
Asad was soon followed back to the pavilion by Rudd who had made a steady 31 and when George Drury was dismissed shortly after, the hosts were in a little bit of trouble with the score at 92-4.
It was now down to Sam Drury and skipper Danny Broumpton to take Driffield to a defendable score and, although progress was slow to begin with, the pair hit the accelerator as the innings reached its conclusion to take the total to 228-6.
Drury finished the innings with a hard-fought 63, whilst Broumpton scored 72 from 70 balls, his highest score of the season thus far.
With rain in the air, Driffield were looking for some early wickets to put Dunnington immediately on the back foot and they duly delivered as they reduced their opponents to 36-4 with all four batsmen dismissed for single figures.
The Woldsmen’s momentum was interrupted as the umpires took the players off with heavy rain falling. However, when they returned Broumpton’s side continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals with only away skipper Jack Bolam providing any resistance. Bolam was eventually dismissed for 69 but it was not enough to save his side from a heavy defeat as they were bowled out for 140 in the 29th over.
The pick of the Driffield bowling attack was opening bowler Jamie Hopper who mixed his pace up nicely to claim season-best figures of 5-30.
