Driffield resident Sally McNaughton has stated that she is delighted and surprised after having success at two showjumping national championships in consecutive weeks.
Sally rode Gunner Mason to victory in the National Club Horse 90cm Championship on Friday 11th August at the British Showjumping National Championships at Stoneleigh just a week after riding Ashanti to win an Equine Sports UK Championship in Grantham.
Gunner’s first victory at Stoneleigh was Sally’s first class on him and was one of two championships they had qualified to compete in.
They qualified following finishing top of a regional league and competed against showjumpers from as far away as Aberdeen and Plymouth.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have won with both Ashanti and Gunner Mason at National Championships in consecutive weeks,” Sally told the Wolds Weekly.
“I won with Gunner in a lower class a couple of years ago but this was the first time we’d won a National Championship class at that height.
“It was a very competitive class to be in and I certainly didn’t expect to win and I’m really proud of Gunner.
“Ashanti was actually second fastest in her championship class as Stoneleigh but knocked down a pole so she finished eighth.
“Gunner was very excited and full of himself after winning and the commentator even stated that he’d never seen such a speedy winning lap of honour!”
