Yorkshire Wolds Railway to host model railway show this weekend

The Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) is currently making the final arrangements for its model railway show to be held at Wetwang Community Hall on Saturday 17th March.

Not only is this the first event of 2018, it is also the first time the YWR has hosted such an event.
Event co-ordinator, Katy Bowser, said: “We have been working hard to source a variety of model railways in “N” and “OO” gauge to show.

“It is set to be an exciting day for us and something we have not done before so we are all really looking forward to seeing all the models set up and running!”

The YWR has also been very busy at their site at Fimber Halt over the winter period in preparation for its re-opening on Sunday 1st April.

Chairman Ed Hague said: “A lot of work has been undertaken on site by the volunteers in all weathers.
“This has included track laying and maintenance on our locomotive ‘Sir Tatton Sykes’.

“We are really grateful for everyone’s continued support, as it has been rather cold at times, but a constant supply of tea has kept us going!”

A considerable amount of work has also taken place off site including the construction of a new website which has been in development for the last six months with the help of a local company.

Media officer Matthew Brown explained: “We have had a very active website and forum since 2011, but that has had no substantial changes since then.

“Working with this local company, we have produced a new site and forum that will not only give you details about what is happening at the YWR, but will also allow you to view this information on your PC, tablet, or mobile device – which is a first for us!”

Trade stands will be available at the show, along with vintage toys and a tombola. There will also be refreshments.
The show will run from 10am to 5pm with an entrance fee of £2 for adults and £1 for children.

The YWR is always keen to involve new people and anyone interested in becoming a member, volunteering for any aspect such as driving (after training), making a donation or just finding out more should visit the YWR website at yorkshirewoldsrailway.org.uk or call 01377 338053.
