East Riding of Yorkshire Council has thanked motorists for their patience during the recently extended road improvements at Stamford Bridge on the A166, and apologised for the delays caused.

A council spokesperson explained : “The very severe weather we experienced recently caused significant delays to these important resurfacing works, and extended the overnight scheme by around two weeks. We apologise that the delays lasted for longer than we had anticipated, but can assure road users that the main works have now been completed, and we thank them for their patience.”

The final stage of the improvements to the A166 is replacing the road markings, and this will be done overnight and completed by Easter.

The associated works in Viking Road in Stamford Bridge have also been delayed by the severe weather, but work to replace the old concrete carriageway is now well under way, and should be completed by the end of April.

Further along the A166, work is under way to replace the safety fence between Garrowby Hill and Fridaythorpe in various locations, and this phase of the work should be complete in early April.

To the west of Fridaythorpe, work will start on Wednesday, 18 April to resurface sections of the road and carry out repairs to other areas. In May, that phase of the work will move to Garrowby Hill itself.

Meanwhile, major improvements are also being carried out on the A614 at Holme on Spalding Moor. Work has also been delayed in this location, because of problems encountered whilst installing the additional drainage along the road. The council would like to reassure road users that a new solution has been found for this situatuion, and materials have been ordered to speed up the progress of the scheme.
