Some of the world’s largest inflatable kites will be taking to the skies over Sewerby Fields, Bridlington, this weekend.
The Bridlington Kite Festival is a free event, which takes place over two days, Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th May, from 10am to 5pm.
The two-day festival is hosted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Coast programme and the Northern Kite Group, and is sponsored by St Stephen’s Shopping Centre in Hull.
It will include colourful displays from a number of internationally-renowned experts, as well as traditional fairground rides and a food village.
Displays will include some of the world’s largest inflatable kites flown by professional flyers, teams of two and four line kite flyers performing sequences to music, a display of unique oriental kites, Indian fighter kites and much more. There will also be a chance for members of the public, particularly children, to have a go at flying some of the kites in the display arena.
Sewerby Fields is in Sewerby Road, Sewerby (YO15 1ER) and the nearest car parks are the Sewerby Picnic area (YO15 1ER) or Limekiln Lane (YO15 2LX).
Visitors can also take the land train which runs between Sewerby and Bridlington every half an hour from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “This is the third year of the Kite Festival, which continues to grow in popularity. Hosting this fantastic event is a real coup for both Bridlington and the wider East Riding, as it provides both residents and visitors with the opportunity to see some of the best kite displays in the world.”
