40-year-old woman sustains ‘life-changing’ injuries in Driffield attack

Police are investigating the assault of a woman on Westgate in Driffield.

At 2.30am on Saturday 28th July a 40-year-old woman was walking on Westgate in Driffield when she was approached and then allegedly assaulted by another woman. Following this incident, a man reportedly came across the road to further assault the woman. She was taken to hospital for treatment to serious, life changing facial injuries.

Superintendent Philip Gadd said, “This level of violence is thankfully rare and I want to reassure the residents of Driffield that I don’t believe there is any risk to the wider public. Following prompt action by the local policing team and initial investigations, we arrested two people. A 20 year-old man remains in police custody and an 18-year-old woman, who was also arrested has been released pending further enquiries.”
