Estate agents to enjoy spectacular views during Three Peaks challenge

Estate agents often praise the spectacular open views of the properties they are selling, but a team from a Driffield office are set to experience some of the best views in Yorkshire.

The problem is, it won’t be from one of the houses on their books.

Eight members of staff from Willowgreen are preparing to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money for Driffield Skatepark.

Businesses can so easily get carried away with work and not think about helping the people we serve. People trust us to help them buy and sell houses and we wanted to give something back.

They have just started training for the 24-mile course and hope they will inspire other local businesses to support the facility.

Managing director Lisa Tyler said: “None of us are athletes.

“This is definitely going to be a challenge for us.

“We went for a walk for the first time around Thixendale and did eight miles and that was really challenging.”

Next up was a 10-mile hike from Driffield to Garton-on-the-Wolds, after they had paid a visit to the skate park they are so keen to support.

Lisa said: “Businesses can so easily get carried away with work and not think about helping the people we serve.

“People trust us to help them buy and sell houses and we wanted to give something back.

“We wanted to make sure we didn’t lose sight of being part of the community.”

Willowgreen announced on its Facebook page in April that the team would be walking the Three Peaks and it asked for suggestions for a local charity to support

“We heard about what the skate park means to the children and local families who use it and it was quite emotional,” added Lisa.

“It is one of the only ones in the area which is not funded by the council and all the money to keep it going has to be generated by businesses getting behind it, or raised by the families who use it.

“So many facilities like this have been closed over the years.

“We have to be thankful to Lucie and all of those who selflessly give up their free time.”

The eight members of the Willowgreen team, from the Driffield and Malton offices, will be climbing Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough on July 3rd.

They hope to complete the 5,200ft of climbing within 12 hours and have set a fundraising target of £2,000.

“We are going to try to build up our training gradually, week by week,” said Lisa.

“We are determined to do this because we all have children and we know how important facilities like the skate park are.

“Hopefully the money will allow them to buy more scooters and more ramps.

“The ply they use for the ramps comes from Russia, so you can imagine it is really hard to get hold of in the current climate.

“Hopefully, more businesses will feel they can help, either by supplying material or fundraising like we are.”
