The Queen’s funeral – what is open and what is closed

The funeral service for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II takes place on Monday, 19th September – and the day has been declared a Bank Holiday.

A number of services and businesses in the Driffield area have confirmed they will be closing, or operating reduced hours, as a mark of respect and to allow staff to watch the coverage of the event.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has confirmed:

● All community sport and activities are cancelled

● All household waste recycling sites will be closed all day

● East Riding Leisure Driffield will be closed all day

● Driffield Library and customer service centre will be closed all day. Mobile libraries will also not be operating.

● Public toilets will be open all day

● Registration offices are open only for planned weddings. Offices are closed for registrations and other enquiries.

● Bin collections due to take place on Monday will NOT be going ahead, following the announcement of the full details of the funeral of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Britain’s largest supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda, Aldi and Lidl have confirmed they will close.

WH Smith, Wilko and Gregg’s, which all have branches in Driffield, have confirmed they will be closed all day on Monday.

Nisa on Scarborough Road will open from 6am to 10.30am and reopen from 5pm until 9.30pm. It will be closed from 10.30am to 5pm to allow staff to pay their respects.

Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC) and out of hours GP services across the East Riding of Yorkshire will remain open. GP practices and most pharmacies will be closed.

Schools will be closed.

Pubs are expected to stay open. Wetherspoons has said its pubs will not open until around 1pm.

All East Yorkshire buses will run to Sunday times on Monday 19th September. Beachcomber services will not run, and BusLine will close for the day.
