Rishi Sunak appointed UK Prime Minister


Prime minister has said he was elected to ‘fix some mistakes’ by former PM Liz Truss during his first speech outside Number 10.

The MP for Richmond said it was his ‘noble aim’ to want to improve growth.
‘Trust is earned and I will earn yours,’ said Mr Sunak.


Mr Sunak was appointed as the new Conservative Party leader on Monday.


This also meant he became the new prime minister following Ms Truss’ resignation.

Earlier today, he was asked by the King to form a new government.

Mr Sunak replaces Ms Truss, who was the shortest ruling prime minister in history.

Earlier today she held her final cabinet meeting and met the King to formally resign.
