“We can all come together to support our local businesses”

A series of promotional events are being held to remind shoppers in Driffield of the importance of shopping locally and supporting the town’s independent businesses by taking part in the Discover Driffield Loyalty Card Scheme and using Discover Driffield Gift Vouchers.

The Loyalty Card scheme was launched last year and received a positive response from both shoppers and businesses.

Every time a customer uses their card in one of the participating businesses, they are entered into a monthly prize draw with a chance to win £50 worth of Discover Driffield Gift Vouchers and other prizes provided by participating businesses.

With businesses facing challenging times due the increase in energy prices, Driffield’s Town Centre Officer Jill Baldwin is working with members of the Town Centre Steering Group to promote the scheme and encourage people to shop locally and support the independent high street businesses.

A series of promotional events will be held on Driffield Thursday Market and on the Umbrella Plaza to encourage a greater uptake and usage of the scheme to ensure the participating businesses continue to thrive.

Jill told the Wolds Weekly: “The Loyalty Card Scheme was launched last year as a way of encouraging people to support high street businesses in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

“The scheme is proving to be very popular and, of the initial 10,000 cards we had produced, we only have 1,250 left.

“We have been working with local businesses to address any issues they have and to make sure it works effectively for them moving forward.

“We have new businesses joining the scheme, such as the new cobblers Fletchers Cobblers and the Crooked Tap has also enquired about joining up.

“We felt it was a good time to remind people about the Loyalty Card Scheme and the Discover Driffield Gift Vouchers as a way of encouraging people to use their local high street.

“The prize draw and the extra offers and prizes given by participating businesses are just an extra incentive to attract more people to come into Driffield and do their shopping.

“By using the cards and gift vouchers, we can all come together to support our local businesses.”

Discover Driffield Gift Vouchers can be purchased from Driffield Town Council’s offices on Market Walk and from the Driffield & Wolds Weekly office. They can be spent in over 90 local businesses.

Loyalty cards are available from a number of participating businesses as well as the Driffield Town Council offices.
