17-YEAR-OLD BOY ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER INCIDENT AT SHEFFIELD SCHOOL

South Yorkshire Police have said a 17-year-old boy has been arrested for attempted murder following an incident at a school in Sheffield that saw three people injured.

Officers attended Birley Community College in the city at 8:50am on Wednesday morning after receiving reports of an incident involving a sharp object.

A child and two adults were injured, and received medical attention.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested and remains in police custody.

“A 17-year-old boy has been detained following reports of three people being injured at Birley Community College in Sheffield this morning (Wednesday 1 May),” said a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

“Officers are at the scene after responding to reports of an incident involving a sharp object at the school on Birley Lane at around 8:50am.

“Two adults were checked over at the scene after suffering minor injuries. A child was also checked over after being assaulted.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. Police will remain at the scene throughout the day to provide assurances to those in the school and the local community.

“We will provide further updates as and when we can.”
