Driffield Steam Fair rolls into town

Two days of nostalgia and family fun will take place at Driffield Showground this weekend as the Driffield Steam Fair rolls into town.

Taking place across Saturday and Sunday (10th and 11th August) in Kelleythorpe, the steam fair, which is organised by Custom Shows, will see hundreds of steam, vintage and classic vehicles.

From traction engines and steam rollers to classic cars, tractors, vintage motorbikes and agricultural machinery, there will be something for all lovers of vehicles from a bygone era.

The Saturday evening roadrun will start leaving the Showground at 5:45pm.

There also promises to be entertainment for young and old, with arena displays, traditional fairground rides, trade stands, children’s activities, food and drink and a live DJ.

For many, the highlight of the weekend is the popular Saturday evening road run through Driffield town centre, where thousands of people congregate on both sides of the road to watch the vehicles wind their way from the Showground.

Matt Rogers, who is organising the road run, said it is a special night that attracts crowds of people into the town centre.

He said: “The smaller vehicles will begin to leave the Showground at 5.45pm and the rest of the parade will follow on leaving at 6pm.

“The vehicles will be parking up on Market Place and Middle Street and it should be another great night and we are all looking forward to it.

“Driffield is one of the few shows in the country that organise a road run and the owners of the vehicles love to take part in it.

“It brings so many people into the town and has a huge economic benefit because the shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants benefit from the extra trade.

“It also brings a feel-good factor into Driffield, and people love to come out and enjoy the atmosphere and see the great spectacular of the vehicles.

“It is an historic event for Driffield and great to see such a popular tradition continue.”
