MOST PENSIONERS TO LOSE WINTER FUEL PAYMENTS AS GOVERNMENT WINS COMMONS VOTE

MPs have voted to cut winter fuel payments for most pensioners, other than those in receipt of pension credit.

A move to oppose the cut by the Conservative Party was defeated by 348 to 228 votes.

This winter, only those claiming pension credit or other means-tested benefits will be given financial help with their fuel bills.

Previously, all those aged over 66 received the payments. Around 1.5 million people are expected to receive the payment.
