ROUGH SEA CALL OUT FOR HORNSEA INSHORE RESCUE

At 5pm on 5th September, Hornsea Inshore Rescue were tasked by Humber Coastguard to assist in the investigation of reports that a person had been seen entering a very rough sea to the south of Hornsea.

Spirit of Hornsea was swiftly launched by launchmaster Adam Collins with leading coxswain Karl Shannon at the helm and coxswains Tom Mitchell, James Kennedy and Jake Roberts as crew.

Despite the very rough conditions the crew conducted a shoreline search from Hornsea to Rolston in an attempt to locate the casualty, working alongside Hornsea and Bridlington Coastguard teams and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

In the meantime the Hornsea Inshore Rescue shore based crew located a person matching the description and confirmed the person was in no distress.

Consequently the Spirit of Hornsea was stood down and returned to base where it was refuelled, washed down and prepared for its next call out.

Mr Shannon said: “This was a false alarm with good intent, but if you notice anyone in trouble along the coast or get into difficulties yourself don’t hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

“It was a pretty lumpy sea out there but the boat handled like a dream and the crew are all intensively trained to handle these situations and deal with any difficulties that might arise.”
