York: Police Recover Teenager’s Body from River Following Search

At 11.45am today (Wednesday 5 March 2025), police divers have sadly recovered the body of a man from the River Ouse in York. The Police Under Water Search Unit had been assisting in the search operation, which began earlier in the morning after reports of a man entering the river from Ouse Bridge at 3.06am.

Emergency services, including York Rescue Boat and the North Yorkshire Fire Service fire boat crews, were deployed immediately and carried out extensive searches between Ouse Bridge and Skeldergate Bridge. Despite their efforts, the man was not located until late morning when police divers made the recovery.

It is believed that the recovered body may be that of the missing 19-year-old man reported to have entered the river. His family has been informed and is receiving specialist support from officers. Formal identification has yet to take place, so the man’s name has not yet been released.

North Yorkshire Police has stated that no suspicious circumstances surround the incident. A report is being compiled on behalf of the coroner.

Witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage are urged to come forward to assist with the coroner’s report. Those with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference NYP-05032025-0030.
