Scottish painter Jack Vettriano has died at the age of 73

Some sad news this afternoon – The Scottish painter Jack Vettriano, known for his painting The Singing Butler, has died at the age of 73.

Vettriano was found in his apartment in Nice, said his publicist. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the artist’s death.

He was a self-taught artist, born in Fife in 1951, and left school at the age of 16 to become a mining engineer.

Vettriano was given a set of watercolours for his 21st birthday and taught himself to paint thereafter, going on to become one of the most famous artists Scotland has produced.
