New CCTV for Garden of Remembrance

A new CCTV camera has been installed at Driffield’s Garden of Remembrance after repeated complaints of anti-social behaviour.

Driffield Town Council’s external funding officer Fiona Turner successfully made a bid to the Safer Communities Fund for almost £2,000 to secure a new camera at the memorial garden on North Street, as well as for an upgrade of the cameras covering North End Park.

Cllr Paul Rounding, chairman of Driffield Town Council’s CCTV committee, told the Wolds Weekly: “I am pleased the new camera at the memorial garden is now in place.

“This is the latest addition to the CCTV system we have in place across the town and from its position it gives very good coverage of the whole garden.

“This has come following public request because of incidents of disturbance at the gardens.

“Teenagers gather there and we hope the camera will act as a deterrent because it is not appropriate for them to gather there drinking and smoking.

“We don’t want to stop people using the gardens, but they must do so respectfully.

“We have also upgraded the cameras at North End Park and the images from these, and all of our 44 digital, high definition cameras, are very good and are regularly monitored by the police.

“The new cameras and the upgrade will enhance our system and make Driffield an even safer and nicer place to live.”
