Beverley Racecourse season opener is postponed

The first meeting of the season at Beverley Racecourse has been cancelled because of a waterlogged track.

The season opener on Wednesday (17th April) was due to attract a strong field, with some exciting two-year-old, top-quality sprinters in the feature race, and 129 entries across the card.

However, an inspection of the course on Monday afternoon, confirmed the bad news that the deluge of rain in recent weeks had taken its toll.

On Monday morning, the course was said to be ‘heavy’ but raceable, however the racecourse posted on social media that they had been beaten by the weather.

“All pre-purchased tickets will automatically be refunded, and we will be in touch with our hospitality guests.

Following a further 5mm of rainfall since 8am today, one area of the track remains waterlogged. With further rain forecast tomorrow and Wednesday, there is sadly little hope of the area recovering to allow racing to safely go ahead on Wednesday.”
