THE FA CONFIRM THOMAS TUCHEL AS NEW ENGLAND MANAGER FROM 1ST JANUARY 2025
German Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as England men’s football manager from 1st January 2025.
The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager will be the third non-British permanent manager of England, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Tuchel replaces Gareth Southgate, who resigned from his role following England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Interim manager Lee Carsley will remain in charge for the Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November.
English coach Anthony Barry will be Tuchel’s assistant.
The FA said Tuchel was their ‘preferred candidate’ and signed a contract last Tuesday.
“I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team,” said Tuchel. “I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.
“To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.
“Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud.
“I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark and John, for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together.”
