Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club’s new head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.
Amorim has signed a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, with the option of a further year, and will start work on Monday 11th November.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of United in the interim and started his term as caretaker with a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Caraboa Cup.
Amorim led Sorting Lisbon to their first league title in 19 years in 2021 and also won the title with the club last season.
Sporting have won all nine league games Amorim has taken charge of this season.
“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football,” said a Manchester United spokesperson.
“Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.”
