THE ARCHERS ACTRESS JUNE SPENCER HAS DIED AT THE AGE OF 105

Some sad news this afternoon – June Spencer, who played Peggy in BBC Radio 4 drama The Archers from 1951 to 2022 has died at the age of 105.

A statement said she died peacefully in her sleep during the early house of Friday at Liberham Lodge in Kent, where she had lived for the last two years.

The character she played, Peggy Woolley, was viewed as a traditionalist, conservative character in the long-running drama.

She was one of the original cast members and has been described as the current editor as ‘the Queen of Ambridge’.

The Queen is one of Spencer’s fans and, when she was Duchess of Cornwall, invited The Archers cast to Clarence House in 2021, marking the drama’s 70th anniversary.
