Sledmere Farm Shop – New venue means more choice

The Farm Shop at Sledmere has relocated with its new venue offering more space to stock a greater range of products.
Last month, the new Sledmere Farm Shop opened its doors to the public offering an even greater choice of locally sourced, fresh quality produce.
The Farm Shop, which is now located across the road from Sledmere House, includes a coffee shop and is situated next to the new adventure play area and farm, which have also relocated from the main grounds of the house.
Catering manager Chris Mallinson said: “The new Farm Shop has more floor space so we can stock a wider range of products.
“We continue to champion local products and providence and are proud to stock products from Soanes’ Poultry and Laverack Butchers and Bakers.
“Wherever possible we stock our own products including asparagus grown in the walled garden, rhubarb from the garden, our own shorthorn cattle and rare breed pork, and our lemongrass gin which is distilled at Raisthorpe.”

The new Farm Shop is located in the former woodyard, and every effort has been made to retain as many of the original features of the yard with photographs of former woodyard workers on the walls.
Chris added: “We have preserved the original saw bench and the stable door where big pieces of timber were brought in to be cut down. We have also unearthed the old saw pit, which we didn’t know was there.
“Elements of the original floor have been kept, and we have used oak from the estate to repair and replace broken blocks.”

He added that plants grown by head gardener Jan Latham will also be available at the Farm Shop.
Plans going forward include a new outdoor terrace area for people to enjoy refreshments outside.
“We are planning an outdoor seating area, where people can sit out in the summer and now the new play area is open and the farm animals have relocated to this area, it is a great space for families to come and enjoy,” he said.
The Farm Shop and Coffee Shop are open seven days a week from 8.30am-5pm with free Adventure Playground, Farm and parking.
Sledmere House and Gardens now operates a core opening of four days a week (Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sun) from late March to late September, and will continue to have pop-up opening on Bank Holiday Mondays, during school holidays and during events.
