Find room to read for baby Frankie Beasley

Families across Driffield and the Wolds are being encouraged to take part in a charity read along in memory of Frankie Beasley who sadly passed away at the age of four weeks after being cared for at Leeds General Infirmary.

Frankie’s Read Along is asking people to set aside just 10 minutes of their time to read to their children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews in exchange for a donation to Leeds Hospitals Charity to help support the team who cared for Frankie and which continues to provide amazing care for other premature and seriously poorly babies.

Frankie’s parents Alex and Lucy Beasley from Driffield and their good friend Sam have chosen the book Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson to read because this was a book Lucy used to read to Frankie during their four precious weeks together.

Alex said: “Frankie was born prematurely on 13th August 2021 at Leeds General Infirmary and was taken straight to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where he was cared for by the amazing doctors and nurses for the four weeks he was with us.

“If it wasn’t for the quick action and dedicated one-to-one care of everyone at the NICU, we would not have had the four amazing weeks that we had with Frankie.”

The read along was the idea of family friend Sam who said she wanted to do something to remember Frankie.

She said: “This read along is to show support to Lucy and Alex and their families, as well as others who have experienced the loss of a baby.

“If anyone does not have a copy of the book Room on the Broom, I am recording a video of me reading the story, which will be available on my Facebook profile Samantha Catherine.

“Alternatively, people could just read any book.

“All we ask is that they please think of Frankie whilst reading the book and donate whatever they can to support Leeds General Infirmary NICU.”

Sam set an initial target of raising £100, however within a couple of days of the fundraising page going live, that target had already been surpassed.

She added: “Whatever amount we raise will be fantastic and great help to the amazing team of people who cared for Frankie.”
