Meet Sledmere’s newest arrivals as deer safari gives visitors a glimpse of newborn calves

Visitors to Sledmere are being given the chance to get up close to one of the estate’s most treasured sights as the popular Deer Safari returns, offering a unique opportunity to see the famous herd of red deer – including this year’s newborn calves.

The tractor and trailer safari takes guests out into the parkland to enjoy views of the deer grazing in the fields, with an evening safari taking place this Friday, (June 19th 2026), with limited tickets still available.

The experience continues across Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, when visitors can purchase a combined ticket to enjoy the Deer Safari alongside a visit to Sledmere’s parkland and gardens.

As well as meeting the herd, visitors can explore the 18th century walled garden, which has been shortlisted for Garden of the Year with Historic Houses, while the Coach House Cafe, Farm Shop, free playground and Triton Gallery – featuring an exhibition from the Rocking Horse Shop – will also be open.

Sledmere visitor and events manager Susie Freeman-Thickett said the safari was a firm favourite with visitors of all ages.

“The Deer Safari is popular with young and old alike and is a unique experience to see our huge herd of red deer and be some of the first people to see the calves which have just been born,” she said.

“With a combined ticket, it is possible to make it a full day out and visit the site and have a stroll around the 18th century walled garden which has been shortlisted for the Garden of the Year with Historic Houses.”
