Meet the rare new arrival at Bridlington Animal Park

Keepers at Bridlington Animal Park are celebrating the Easter arrival of one of the world’s rarest animals.

The baby ring-tailed lemur – the first to be born at the park – was being closely cared for by first-time mum Shannon when visitors arrived at the park on Easter Monday.

The park’s keepers have not yet been able to confirm the gender of the new arrival, as baby lemurs spend the first few months of life piggybacking on their mums.

Ring-tailed lemurs are listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List, which is one step away from extinction.

Female lemurs may give birth as young as three years old, with their pregnancy lasting around 141 days.
