Highfield House named as one of The Independent’s top six new UK hotels

Delighted owner of Highfield House, Andy Lampard, has told the Wolds Weekly that the phone has been ‘off the hook’ with enquiries since it was named in The Independent’s top six new UK hotels.

The Grade II listed house, which sits on the corner of Windmill Hill in Driffield, reopened as a hotel in May.
Since owning Highfield House in 2015, Andy and wife Lindsey have transformed it from their initial intention of a family home and office to an events venue complete with hotel and restaurant.

Having enjoyed a busy summer with private functions and weddings, Andy said it was both a surprise and a bonus to have been recognised in The Independent’s article titled ‘The best new UK hotels’.

It is so wonderful to see the hard work of our family, team of employees and fabulous contractors really coming to life and being noticed across the country.

“We had no idea that the article was going to be published as we were visited by a secret shopper,” he told the Wolds Weekly.

“I only knew about it when a friend sent me a link to the article last week after it was published.

“We had no idea we’d even been visited and to be named in the top six in the UK is just amazing.

“We’re really honoured and to be alongside three others based in London, plus two in Scotland, shows the calibre we were up against.

“Highfield House’s hotel was only opened in May and it’s not something we’ve really marketed since either.

“Following the article being published, our phone has been off the hook with bookings and enquiries for our rooms, ticketed events and restaurant.”

The feature, written by award-winning journalist and hotel expert, Ianthe Butt, was published on 20th September.

In it, Ms Butt states Highfield House has been given ‘a new burst of life’ by Andy and Lindsey and that each of the 10 boutique bedrooms are ‘packed with personality’.

Ms Butt also referenced the facility’s self-serve pantry and hailed the restaurant and cocktail bar.

Another aspect mentioned was the keto-specific menu items including cheese scones, sausages wrapped in bacon and devilled egg with masala mayo.

Andy added: “The article makes reference to our restaurant menu, something which has done incredibly well and I think has helped to slowly but surely enable to hotel to gather pace.

“Our Wednesday afternoon teas are also highlighted, as well as our keto and vegan friendly options.

“Highfield House’s chefs come from high standard backgrounds and we pride ourselves on the ability to turn our hand to anything.

“Along with several nominations for various upcoming awards, it is so wonderful to see the hard work of our family, team of employees and fabulous contractors really coming to life and being noticed across the country.

“We are delighted with this accreditation and love the influence that Highfield House can have on bringing people from far and wide to our beautiful town.”
