PHOTOS: East Yorkshire Cross Country League at Wetwang

Driffield’s Matthew Nelson claimed first place in the inaugural meeting of the 2022/23 East Yorkshire Cross County League.

Nelson, 30, was representing City of Hull Athletic Club in the 8.3k run at Wetwang, hosted by Yorkshire Wolds Runners.

He finished in 30 minutes and three seconds, nine seconds clear of Beverley Athletic Club’s James Johnson.

Striders’ best male finisher was Neil Ridsdale in 65th overall, whilst Simon Matson was the best male finisher for Wolds Runners in 71st.

The first woman home was Driffield Striders’ Emily Soanes, who was 27th overall in 34:50, 20 seconds clear of the next best woman.

Katy Lakes took the line as the first female from Yorkshire Wolds Runners in 49th place.

In the league table, Striders are ninth with 453 points and Wold Runners are 10th with 535 points in the men’s league.

In the women’s section, Striders are 7th with 130 points and Wolds Runners are 8th with 131.
