Former Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday star is guest speaker

After three years away during the COVID-19 pandemic, Driffield Town Cricket Club’s Sportsman’s Dinner is returning for the 27th time and will take place at The Bell Hotel on Saturday 4th February 2023.

This year’s speaker, sponsored by the Full Measure, will be former England international and Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer.

West Midlands-born Palmer, 56, started his career at West Bromwich Albion before going on to play in the Premier League for the Wednesday, United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Coventry City.

He was capped by England on 18 occasions and was part of Graham Taylor’s Euro 1992 squad.

After retirement, Palmer went into management with Stockport County, Mansfield Town and latterly Grantham Town.

Palmer will be joined on the bill in the Old Town Hall by comedian Gary Marshall, sponsored by OE Sports Coaching and Education, who has been on the after-dinner circuit for over 20 years, with a ‘unique style and deadpan delivery’.

As well as a three-course, there will also be a prize raffle and an auction of sporting memorabilia.

Tickets are priced £35 per person for tables of eight, 10 or 12. However, other numbers can be catered for.

All money raised will go towards improving facilities and purchasing new equipment at Driffield Town Cricket Club.

To book, call Kevin Woodcock on 07729617959 or email wooder16@live.co.uk.
