Four pubs from Driffield and the Wolds included in Good Beer Guide 2023

Four pubs from the Wolds Weekly area have been selected in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023.

The Guide surveys 4,500 pubs across the UK and is compiled by independent volunteers who give personal recommendations which are then reviewed by local branches, such as the Yorkshire Wolds group.

Recommendations consider beer quality, as well as the history and architecture of a pub and aspects such as food, gardens, family and disabled facilities and special events.

The pubs selected by the Yorkshire Wolds branch for the golden anniversary edition of the UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide were the Butchers Dog and Benjamin Fawcett in Driffield, the Old Star in Kilham and the Bosville Arms in Rudston.

The entries for each pub were as follows:

Butchers Dog – ‘A welcoming bar that offers a range of cask ales. This is a serious drinking establishment, a food offering and a calendar of social events for all’

Benjamin Fawcett – ‘An open planned pub serving food and welcoming families. Wall decorations pay tribute to the printer in whose honour the pub is named. Serving four beers sourced from national brewers’

Bosville Arms – ‘The welcoming establishment with a central bar provides several areas for dining and drinking. Serving food which is locally sourced and seasonal whenever possible’

Old Star – This delightful beamed ceiling pub offers three distinct areas off the bar, two rooms offering real fires through the winter months. Quality food is available all day and two cask ales served. Popular with locals and walkers.

The Good Beer Guide was published last week and can be ordered via shop1.camra.org.uk/product/the-good-beer-guide-2023.
