When and where to see Driffield’s illuminated Tractor Run

Final preparations are underway for this weekend’s inaugural Wolds Illuminated Charity Truck and Tractor Run.

The event, which takes place on Saturday evening (17th December), will see more than 75 vehicles adorned with festive decorations and lights make their way through Driffield and the surrounding villages as they raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Blood Cancer UK.

The run is being organised by Mark Roper and his partner Nicola White from Golden Hill Farms and is being supported by Bainton & District Young Farmers Club (YFC).

Mark, Nicola and their family from Wansford have raised over £4,000 in recent months for Blood Cancer UK after Nicola was told she had stage 4 lymphoma in August 2020, two years after going into remission following a first diagnosis.

Following a blood stem cell transplant earlier this year, Nicola is back in remission.

Her children Owen, Lola and Toby walked a mile every day in August as part of Blood Cancer UK’s August Family Walking Challenge.

Now the family is continuing its fundraising by organising the truck and tractor run, which they hope can become an annual event.

Tractors and trucks will gather at Driffield Showground, where there will be a hog roast for the drivers before they set off at around 5.30pm.

The route will then take the convoy through Driffield town centre to Exchange Street for 5.40pm, out along Bridlington Road at 5.45pm and to Nafferton’s Markman Lane at 5.55pm.

It is expected the tractors will reach Nafferton School at 6pm and head to Wansford for 6.15pm before heading back to Driffield along Wansford Road, Riverhead and Skerne Road at 6.25pm.

The convoy heads to Skerne for 6.45pm, then Hutton Cranswick at 7pm, Hutton Balk at 7.10pm and to Southburn at 7.30pm.

The colourful convoy will visit Bainton at 7.45pm and on to Tibthorpe at 7.55pm reaching Wetwang at 8.10pm, then heading back towards Driffield, it will pass through Garton on the Wolds at 8.25 and reach York Road roundabout at Driffield at 8.30pm, before the run comes to an end.
All times are approximate.

Mark said he is looking forward to a great evening and hopes people will come out along the route to cheer the drivers as they pass by.

He said: “We have over 50 vehicles entered and we are still taking entries up until an hour before the start of the event.

“This is the first time we have organised the run and we hoped we could get 50 vehicles so we are pleased with the number and hope to get a few more before Saturday.

“It should be a great spectacle as it makes its way through the town and villages.

“We will have people out with collection buckets along the route and so I hope people will come out and cheer us as we pass by and help raise money for these two important charities.”

Mark added his thanks to sponsors Robert D Webster, Matthew Watson Transport, Yorkshire Tyre Specialist, Cherrys Country Hardware and Driffield School & Sixth Form.
