Dancing Diggers on their way to Driffield Show

Visitors to this year’s Driffield Show can look forward to a dancing act with a difference after organisers announced JC Balls Dancing Diggers will be the main ring attraction at the show in July.

This hugely popular spectacle will demonstrate the flexibility and talent of the JCB operators as they follow a routine to music, containing several daring manoeuvres including balancing the machines on their sides and wheelies.

As reported in the Wolds Weekly, the Driffield Show will return to its traditional one-day format this year taking place on Wednesday 19th July.

For the last two years, the show has taken place across two days with a cap on visitor numbers to take into consideration restrictions in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

After listening to feedback from visitors and exhibitors, the Driffield Show committee made the decision that the 147th Driffield Show will take place over one day.

Organisers said they were delighted that JC Balls Dancing Diggers would be performing in Driffield.

Cheryl Lynch, society manager, said: “We are delighted to have been able to secure the Dancing Diggers; they rarely perform outside of the Midlands where they are based and we are guaranteed to see JCBs being handled much differently to how we are used to seeing them.”

Consisting of six team members who have worked together since 2004, the performances highlight the time, dedication and hard work that has been put in to perfect the precision routine.

Using both vintage and unique JCBs showcasing the power, versatility and accuracy of the machines, they and their operators will be tested to the limit throughout their act.

The Driffield Show will once again celebrate the area’s agricultural heritage whilst also taking the time to embrace new developments.

Visitors are promised a vast range of activities, displays, educational content and demonstrations, designed to suit everyone regardless of age or interests.

Show organisers say they are proud that the Driffield Show is the show that has ‘something for everyone’, and there will be plenty of opportunities for those enjoying a spot of retail therapy, with the aim to have the usual 450 trade stands to choose from, ranging from lifestyle and fashion, to crafts and local produce.

As well as retail opportunities, the show will also contain the same calibre of entertainment, livestock and equine classes that people expect of the Driffield Show.

To ensure that the Driffield Show remains not only a great day out for everyone, but also a good value great day out, entry tickets, when bought in advance, have been reduced and entry for accompanied children under the age of 16 is free.
