PHOTOS: Festive town centre tractor run raises almost £4,000

Delighted organisers of the first Wolds Illuminated Truck and Tractor Run say they are over the moon after the charity spectacular raised an impressive £3,800.

Huge crowds of people lined the route to watch the 85 decorated tractors and trucks as they made their way through Driffield and the surrounding villages to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Blood Cancer UK.

The run, which took place on 17th December 2022, was organised by Mark Roper and his partner Nicola White from Golden Hill Farms and supported by Bainton & District Young Farmers Club (YFC).

Mark, Nicola and their family from Wansford have raised over £4,000 in recent months for Blood Cancer UK after Nicola was told she had stage 4 lymphoma in August 2020, two years after going into remission following a first diagnosis.

Following a blood stem cell transplant last year, Nicola is back in remission.

Vehicles, adorned with festive decorations and lights, gathered at Driffield Showground, where the drivers enjoyed a hog roast and awards were given for the best dressed tractor to Archie Flack from Independent Agri Parts Ltd and best decorated truck to Ash Skelton from Robert Croft Transport.

The convoy then made its way through Driffield town centre, where excited families waved and cheered as the vehicles flashed their lights and blew their horns, before heading out to villages including Nafferton, Wansford, Skerne, Hutton Cranswick, Southburn, Bainton, Tibthorpe, Wetwang and Garton-on-the-Wolds.

Organiser Mark Roper said he is blown away by the amount of money raised.

He said: “We are over the moon by the sum raised so far and we still have buckets out which we need to collect, so the final amount should be even greater.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for all their support. The turnout for the run blew my mind and never in our wildest dreams did we imagine so many people would come to watch.

“Plans are already well underway for this year’s run and we want it to be even bigger and better and raise even more money.

“We have already been approached by companies that want to sponsor us and if anyone would like to be a sponsor, we would love to hear from them.

“Thanks again must go to all the tractor and truck drivers, all the sponsors, all the volunteers who helped on the day and collected along the route and members of the public who donated to help us raise such a fantastic amount.”
