Another big fundraising day in memory of baby Frankie

The organisers of a golf day and race night at Driffield Golf Club that raised over £7,000 for a Leeds-based hospital charity last year are appealing for local individuals and businesses to come forward and donate prizes as they look to make the event another huge success this time around.

This year’s golf day and race night in memory of Frankie Beasley will take place on Good Friday (7th April) at the Sunderlandwick course.

Frankie, the son of Driffield couple Alex and Lucy Beasley, sadly passed away at the age of just four weeks after he was born prematurely in August 2021.

During those four weeks, Frankie, Alex and Lucy received outstanding care and support from the staff at Leeds General Infirmary’s Neonatal Unit.

Since 2021, Alex, Lucy and a whole host of their family and friends have helped to raise almost £20,000 for the Leeds Hospitals Charity.

This figure was raised during last year’s golf day and race night and a charity car wash, as well as Alex and 10 of his friends running the Great North Run.

Places for this year’s golf day, which was open to 120 players, have already sold out, whilst only a few tickets for the race night remain on sale.

Alex told the Wolds Weekly that it’s only through the support of everyone who has attended or donated that the fundraising events have been such a success.

“We are on the lookout for raffle prizes from local businesses to help make the day as successful as last year, when we made over £7,000 for Leeds NICU,” he said.

“Since the fundraising started, we are approaching £20,000, all of which has gone to the charity.

“The day is not possible without all of the golfers taking part, all the people attending and all the kind donations that we receive.

“We can’t thank people enough for their continued support, especially in the current climate.”

Once the golf day and race night are over, Alex will be lacing up his running shoes again, this time to take part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon alongside two of his friends.

Last year, Alex and his fellow Great North runners raised around £4,300 for the neonatal unit and he’s hoping for a similar effort over a longer distance this time around.

“Myself, Ian Marshall and Jamie Hopper are all taking on the Leeds Marathon in May,” said Alex.

“We were offered a place after completing the Great North Run last September and decided to go one step further.

“We have all started our training and hope to complete the marathon together.”
