First-class response to Scouts’ post raises £3,069

People in Driffield and the Wolds who delivered their Christmas cards to family and friends through the Driffield Area Scouts’ Christmas Post have helped to raise over £3,000 for local Scout groups after a bumper year for the service.

Covering Driffield and many of its surrounding villages, the service has been in operation for 30 years, with over 80 volunteers collecting, sorting and delivering the mail alongside the Scouts themselves.
Support is also provided by 15 local businesses who act as drop-off points for the cards.

All proceeds raised from the postal service help to provide recreational and personal development opportunities for around 200 youngsters who are members of the Driffield, Cranswick and Nafferton Scout Groups, as well as the Moot Hill Explorers.

Stephen Lane, who ran the postal service for the first time this year, alongside Phil and Jasmine Stocker, Graham Hadfield and Paul Mears, explained that the number of cards delivered in 2022 was up on the total put through local letterboxes the previous year.

“We have now come to the end of this year’s Scout Christmas Post campaign,” said Stephen.

“The final figures show the number of cards collected was 10,382, slightly up on last year which stood at 10,172.

“The total raised for Scouting in the Driffield area was £3,069. On behalf of the organising team, I wish to thank everyone who provided a collection point without which none of the stamping, sorting, distribution or delivery of the cards could take place.

“Nothing could have been achieved without their valued support. I know that the Driffield, Cranswick and Nafferton Scout Groups, together with the Moot Hill Explorers, all greatly appreciate your support in the provision of personal development opportunities for our young folk.

“I look forward to your continued support in 2023.”
