Wild at Heart Day Nursery opened in 2020 and in just over three years has developed a reputation which sees 150 happy children walking through its doors each week.

After a very busy summer, the nursery’s new building opened last week – marking a huge step forward for the staff and children.

It means it can now offer four learning rooms for youngsters at its home at Four Winds Court on Market Weighton Road, on the outskirts of Driffield.

A hard-working team of builders, groundworkers, plasterers, decorators, joiners, plumbers and the nursery’s own staff pulled out all the stops to make sure everything was ready in time.

Owner and manager Anna Rimmer said: “We have gone from being able to take 56 children a day to a capacity of 90. As it stands, we care for around 150 children across the week, from six months old to school age.

“Our expansion means we have gone from having three age-related rooms to four, all based around global citizenship and sustainability.

“Our babies’ room is the Beachcombers, which is an ocean-themed room and we can take 12 babies every day.

“We have a younger toddlers’ room, the Forest Keepers, which has a British woodland theme.

“The new room is Mountaineers, a Japanese-themed play room for older toddlers and in the new building is the African-themed Park Rangers, which is for children in their year before they start school.

“The feedback to what we have created has been really positive. We have a beautiful airy space and everything is brand new. A lot of work has gone into preparing everything for this moment over the past few months.

“Everything has gone smoothly.”

The nursery employs 30 staff and that includes two chefs, as it provides an ‘all-inclusive’ service’

“We are open 10 hours a day, from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, all year round.

“We understand the demands of working life and that more and more parents are having to go back to work earlier or do more hours than they might have done previously.

“As an all-inclusive setting, we provide all food, drink, suncream, nappies – the children have everything they need for the best possible day.

“We enjoy sending them home tired and mucky at the end of a busy day. I very much believe we can learn from the world around us, which is why we have our forest school site, access to private farmland and enjoy being outside as much as we can.”

As well as welcoming children from Driffield and the surrounding villages, the nursery’s reputation and facilities means it also welcomes children from York, Beverley, Pocklington and Bridlington each day.

Wild at Heart is not your average nursery – here is its mission statement, which shows how it aims to give children the best possible start in life.

Wild at Heart is an innovative and enriching day nursery based in Driffield, East Yorkshire.

Designed and run by a qualified Early Years teacher, Wild at Heart Day Nursery delivers an early education for children aged six months to five years.

Early care and development is fostered through spacious playrooms, communal areas, an adventure playground, private farmland and a secluded woodland site.

Within all our environments, we aim to provide high quality resources, multi-sensory experiences, and excellent pedagogical knowledge, in order to support all children, parents, staff, families and the local community.

Wild at Heart delivers an atmosphere where children can freely be themselves, following their interests and channelling their curiosity.

With nurturing adults always by their side to enhance creative thinking, rich language and problem solving, we create happy, healthy, and confident beings.

Our daily ethos and surroundings exhibit a love of the natural world and are designed to encourage kindness towards the planet and each other.

Each of our age-appropriate playrooms promote ecology and the diversity of Earth, to inspire a brighter and greener world for our future generation.

It is difficult to predict the adult world in which our children will live, but with global citizenship and sustainability at the very core of our ethos, WAH Driffield endeavours to create a brave, unique, curious, and kind future.
