Decomposing bodies of cat and dog found by children near Driffield

The RSPCA is appealing for information after the decomposing bodies of a dog and a cat were found by children in a field near Driffield.

The shocking discovery was made on Sunday 25th January by children passing through the field in Hutton Road, in Cranswick.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Dan Richardson, who is looking into the incident, said: “We are appealing for anyone who has any information to get in touch with us about this sad incident.

“The dog was a small terrier-type dog and the cat was a black domestic short hair. They were in a severe state of decomposition – and basically just skin and bones – so had been dead for some time.

“They were found on an oval foam base from a dog bed and it is highly likely they’d been owned as pets. The dog was microchipped but sadly the chip was unregistered.

“We’re unable to find out exactly how they died, given they are so badly decomposed – so we’re really hoping that the public can help us by getting in touch with any information at all about who owned them.”

If you have information which could help the RSPCA, call the appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 01213779.
