Chris Todd confirmed as new Chief Constable of Humberside Police

Chris Todd has been confirmed as the new Chief Constable of Humberside Police.

Last Friday (7th March), the Humberside Police and Crime Panel held a confirmation hearing to consider the Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison’s preferred candidate, which was Mr Todd.

“I am delighted that the Police and Crime Panel have recognised the high calibre of my preferred candidate and that this officially marks the end of the selection process for Chief Constable of Humberside Police,” said Mr Evison.

“I look forward to working with Chris Todd to serve our communities. The performance of Humberside Police has continued to improve and remains the highest performing force in the country with three outstanding gradings from the independent inspectorate.

“Our communities deserve the best service, and I will be challenging Mr Todd to continue this trajectory for the force so that the public continue to see sustainable improvements in service.”

Following an in-depth question and answer session between panel members and Mr Todd, the panel unanimously endorsed the commissioner’s proposal.

A report will follow with recommendations which include inviting the Chief Constable to update the panel on his vision for the force and updates on Neighborhood Policing.

Mr Todd will assume command of Humberside Police on Monday 7th April on a five-year contract, succeeding Chief Constable Judi Heaton QPM who has been in the role temporarily since July 2024.

“I would like to place on record my sincerest thanks to Chief Constable Judi Heaton QPM who has ensured the force remained under excellent guardianship during her tenure,” added Mr Evison.

“Judi Heaton stepped into the role and provided the much-needed stability and support that Humberside Police needed, not only caretaking but driving further service improvements.”

Mr Todd also acknowledged the leadership of Chief Constable Heaton.

“I want to thank Judi for her outstanding commitment, professionalism and leadership at a time when Humberside Police really needed someone to step up,” said the new chief constable.

“Judi did just that, showing what a dedicated public servant she is. I am delighted and hugely honoured that the Police and Crime Panel have endorsed the Commissioner’s decision to appoint me as the next Chief Constable.

“I intend to bring consistent, stable and ethical leadership to build on the excellent work that is already being delivered every day.

“Through my leadership I will be striving to make Humberside Police an outstanding, globally acclaimed Police Service which is, victim focused, community focused and workforce focused.

“I want the people across Hull, East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire to be proud of the service they receive, and the Service be proud of itself.”
