Thixendale artist Robert E Fuller to appear on The One Show this evening (Wednesday 2nd April)
Thixendale wildlife artist Robert E Fuller is due to feature on BBC One’s The One Show tonight (Wednesday 2nd April) with a film he made about the frogs in his garden pond.
The film follows the lifecycle of frogs, from the moment the cells in frog spawn first divide, to the growth of tadpoles and finally to emerging baby frogs.
Filmed in Mr Fuller’s garden in Thixendale, this documentary is also full of tension as diving beetles patrol the water, pincers at the ready to capture emerging tadpoles.
“I used to spend hours as a child watching dramas like this unfold in our garden pond, and one of the first things I did when I moved to Thixendale was build a pond,” said Mr Fuller.
“Over the years it’s matured and now attracts not only frogs, but toads and newts too. Watching it is magical.”
Known for his acute observations of British wildlife, Mr Fuller is also an artist and primarily uses film to inform his paintings.
Footage similar to this latest television film forms part of a series to go on show at a new exhibition about springtime in Yorkshire opening at his gallery in Thixendale this Saturday (5th April).
