Essential road repairs worth £250,000 to be carried out across the East Riding

A series of essential repairs are to be carried out on key A-roads around Driffield and the Wolds, starting this week. 

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest around £250,000 in a programme of short-scale road works to upgrade surfaces at sites in Bainton, Fridaythorpe, Goole, Stamford Bridge, Howden and Driffield. 

Work is due to begin on Friday (19th September) and continue until late October, weather permitting. 

Bainton 

The scheme is due to start with road repairs at the junction of the A614 and Station Road in Bainton between 7pm and midnight on Friday 19th September and Monday 22nd September. 

Following the repairs, resurfacing works are due to take place on the roundabout connecting the A614 and Bainton Road on Thursday 25th September. 

During the work, the B1248 Bainton Road and C1246 North Dalton Road will be closed, and Station Road will be closed during resurfacing of the junction, with a diversion route in place. 

Fridaythorpe 

Road repairs are scheduled to take place on the A166 Roman Road to Fridaythorpe, from Tuesday 23rd September to Thursday 25th September. 

Patching works will be carried out on the road between Fridaythorpe and the Wayrham layby, overnight between 7pm and 6am. 

Traffic will be managed using a convoy system, which helps reduce the speed of vehicles for the safety of the workforce. 

Stamford Bridge 

The council’s road team will them move on to Stamford Bridge, to undertake repairs on the A166 road, scheduled from Wednesday 1st October to Thursday 9th October. 

Patching works are due to be carried out on weekday evenings between 7pm and midnight.  

Traffic management will be in place, including temporary traffic signals and a convoy system, to to ensure the safety of the workforce. 

Driffield 

The final road patching is scheduled to take place on the roundabouts on the Driffield bypass in late October. 

In order for the repairs to take place, there will be overnight closures of A166 York Road, B1249 Scarborough Road and North Street, Nafferton on separate nights. Signed diversions will be in place. 

Signed diversions will be in place and advanced signs will be erected two weeks before the closure informing of the exact dates. 

Cllr Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “All of these schemes will be short-time road repairs and we have have purposefully scheduled most of them to be carried out on evenings and night times to make sure they cause the least disruption to traffic as possible.
