Police chase from Malton to North Frodingham leads to drink drive charge for 44-year-old man
A suspected drink-driver will appear in court next month after he was arrested by police following a 46-minute police chase that took officers from Malton to North Frodingham.
A concerned member of the public on Monday evening about a man who is believed to have driven home after drinking in some of Malton’s pubs, led to North Yorkshire Police’s response team officers locating a white Vauxhall Astra van at 11:42pm, as it travelled towards North Grimston on the B1248.
When the officers attempted to pull the driver over, he did not stop and headed off towards East Yorkshire.
The officers made their Humberside Police colleagues aware of the vehicle and pursued it through Driffield town centre and onto the B1249 to North Frodingham, where the chase concluded at 12:28am after the driver drove along a dead end to the south of the village.
The 44-year-old driver, from Malton, was arrested and taken into custody for questioning. He was subsequently charged with:
- Drink-driving (93 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol
- Dangerous driving
- Failing to stop for the police
- Driving without a licence for the class of vehicle
- Driving without insurance for the class of vehicle
The man has been released on bail and will appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6th March.
