Driffield RUFC look to build on their first win of the season

By Alexander Fynn

Driffield RUFC will look to claim their second win on the bounce as they travel to Hull RUFC on the back of a confident 57-19 victory over York RUFC over the weekend.

Driffield have had a subdued start to the season but got off the mark at Clifton Park, after losing 61-26 at home to Scunthorpe RUFC the previous weekend.

Hull RUFC though have made a respectable start to the season and are sitting in fifth. Last weekend they beat Blaydon on the road 34-17, after sweeping aside Scarborough RUFC 47-19, so they’ll be looking to keep their promising start in-tact.

Driffield’s third team will look to keep their promising start going as they travel to fourth-placed Withernsea RUFC on the back of dismantling Scunthorpe RUFC Development 93-10. While the fourth team will look to move towards the top of the East Yorkshire Merit table as they welcome Hullensians third team to Kelleythorpe, after losing 34-24 to Beverley second team.

Driffield director of rugby Chris Young had this to say ahead of this weekend’s clashes for the club.

“Hull beat Blaydon at the weekend, so that appears to be a decent result,” said Young. “They have played at a higher level for a number of seasons before coming down this year, but we will take the confidence from the weekend and if we defend and attack like we did at York, we will give ourselves a chance to taking something from the game.”

“The seconds are still finding their feet in the new system, playing a lot of first teams who have just got a bit more nouse in league rugby and know how to get over the line.”
