Two calls in two days for RNLI Bridlington’s volunteers.

Both Bridlington lifeboats were called by the UK Coastguard after a windsurfer and fishing vessel required help.

Lifeboat operations manager (LOM) Keith Turnbull received a request from the UK Coastguard after a lone windsurfer was reported to be in trouble to the south of Bridlington inshore lifeboat station.

On the afternoon of Monday 20th February 2017 Bridlington’s inshore lifeboat Windsor Spirit with its volunteer crew helmsman Jamie McHale along with his crew Pete Jones and Ash Traves made their way to the casualty.

Already on scene, waiting Coastguards were able to guide the inshore lifeboat crew to the windsurfer. Although the sea conditions were not too bad, the gusting wind had damaged the surfer’s board leaving him unable to reach it.

The man, a 53 year old, was taken safely ashore to the waiting Coastguards. The inshore lifeboat crew made an attempt to find the surfer’s board but could not find it.

Bridlington’s LOM Keith Turnbull was alerted just before midnight on Tuesday 21st February after a local 14 metre fishing vessel had suffered engine problems.

Second Coxswain Steve Emmerson and his crew took the boat safely in to Bridlington harbour.
