Active Coast 2019 kicks off this Easter

Active Coast is all set for 2019 – and the programme kicks off in style this Easter!

The Spring Programme offers a chance to get active, be healthy, and enjoy life along the stunning East Yorkshire coast with a range of fun activities to explore, enjoy and join in.

Lou Adams, sport, play and arts service manager, said : “Active Coast is now in its third year and I am delighted we are able to run an exciting programme with many new features in 2019. After a hugely successful 2018, engaging over 19000 people along the East Yorkshire coast, we are looking forward to another great year!”

The programme over the Easter holidays includes:

  • Cover The Coast : Friday, 5 April : 10.00am – 12 noon: Flamborough South Landing : Rockpooling. Adults. Booking essential on 01482 395320 or via www.activecoast.org
  • Skyball Beach Volleyball Club season launch : Saturday, 6 April : Bridlington South Beach (below Park and Ride) : 11am -4pm: ages 8 plus
  • Parkruns at Sewerby Hall and Gardens and Humber Bridge Country Park : every Saturday at 9am
  • Humber Bridge Stone Art Family Workshop : Sunday, 7 April : 11am-4pm: all ages : Hessle Foreshore
  • Coastal Explorers : Monday, 8 April : 10.30 am – 1.30pm : Flamborough South Landing : Rockpooling Adventure, plus beach art. All ages. Booking essential on 01482 395320 or via www.activecoast.org
  • Have a Field Day events : Hornsea South Promenade, Graingers Field : Wednesday, 10 April : 11am-3pm; Bridlington Limekiln Lane: Thursday, 11 April : 11am – 3pm; Withernsea – The Hut : Monday, 15 April : 1pm-4pm : all these free events for all ages feature a range of events including climbing wall, Extreme Arena, sand and stone workshops, football cage, giant inflatable bootcamp, extreme arena, slacklines, Yorkshire Cricket, Golf Foundation, Nerf Zone, archery, face painting, sumo suit, cycling, drumming, dance and a range of sport and play activities.   • Coastal Explorers : Monday, 15 April : 9.30am – 12 noon : Withernsea Beach clean and Fossil and Furlongs : discover the Fossil Furlong Trail and clean the beach: all ages : booking essential on 01482 395320 or via www.activecoast.org
  • All Ride Open Day : Tuesdays, 9 April and 16 April : 11am-3pm : Bridlington North Promenade : ages 5 plus : adapted cycling scheme
  • Beach Cricket : Friday, 12 April & Thursday, 18 April : Bridlington South Cliff beach : below Park and Ride : 10am – 12 noon : ages 6-16
  • Beach Tennis : Friday, 12 April & Thursday, 18 April : 1pm-3pm : Bridlington South Cliff beach : below Park and Ride : 10am – 12 noon : ages 6-16
  • OAA Teambuilding including Slacklines : Friday, 12 April : 1pm – 3pm : Sewerby Hall and Gardens : open to all : normal admission charges apply
  • Bushcraft and Wildlife Warrior : Monday15 April : Sewerby Hall and Gardens: 1pm-3pm : all ages : normal admission charges apply
  • Have a Beach Day : Wednesday, 17 April : Bridlington South Beach, near foreshores office : 11am-3pm : bring a picnic and enjoy a sport, play and art themed day – fun for all ages.

Active Coast also offers a chance to follow the Mile Markers Trails in three locations and keep fit with fun walks : Bridlington has two routes, between the Park and Ride and Sewerby Hall and Gardens, covering three miles; Hornsea offers a 1km route on the South Promenade; and in Withernsea, there are the new Fossil and Furlong markers to find.

There are also weekly Walks for Health all year round, which operate from Sewerby Hall and Gardens on Tuesdays at 10.30 am (one hour walks); East Riding Leisure Bridlington on Thursdays at 10am (one hour walks); The Floral Hall Café in Hornsea on Wednesdays at 11am (one hour); and from East Riding Leisure Withernsea on Wednesdays at 9.30am (one hour).

Active Coast is provided by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, with its partners Skyball, East Coast Beach Soccer, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Yorkshire Cricket Board, and Surfers Against Sewage.
