Music of Queen comes to Driffield School with ‘We Will Rock You’ musical

Students from Driffield School & Sixth Form are preparing to rock the town as final rehearsals are underway for their performance of the hit musical We Will Rock You.

This is the first time the school has staged a performance since before the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020.

Students from Years 7-13 will take to the stage next month over five nights to perform the jukebox musical based on the songs of British rock band Queen with a book by Ben Elton.

The musical tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought and fashion, and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same.

The performances will take place from Tuesday 7th February to Saturday 11th February at 7pm at the Driffield School Performing Arts Block

Head of Drama, Mr Colley, said: “I have been really excited about getting the production back up and running this year.

“It creates a huge buzz for our students within the school and wider community and it is a huge team effort from everyone.

“We have couple of weeks left in rehearsals and then we will be into our show week.

“It is shaping into a terrific show, and we have an amazing live band led by Mr Couper (Head of Music) and they will be rocking into action with our wonderful skilled, and dedicated cast from Tuesday 7th February to Saturday 11 February.”

Tom Hudson who plays Galileo, an outsider, who is desperate to ‘break free’ said: “I love acting and I found the character very intriguing, so I have loved the entire experience of bringing him to life.

“Everybody has been working so hard on the production and we hope you all come along and see the show.”

Erin Baker who plays Scaramouche, a misfit on Planet Mall, said: “It has been a fun and challenging process and I’ve enjoyed meeting people who have similar interests to me.

“Scaramouche has been a real fun character to explore, and it has taken me out of my comfort zone. We hope as many people come and watch the show as possible!”

The performances will take place from Tuesday 7th February to Saturday 11th February at 7pm at the Driffield School Performing Arts Block

Tickets, priced £8 per person, can be purchased with either cash or cheque at the ACE reception. The school is also looking for donations of raffle prizes and these can be dropped off at the school also.
