Welcome packs for new residents in Driffield and the Wolds

Welcome packs aimed at highlighting local businesses and promoting activities on offer in the town have been launched by Driffield Town Council and the Town Centre Steering Group.

The packs are aimed at new residents moving into the area and promote what Driffield has to offer.

As well as leaflets from independent businesses such as shops, cafes and spas, the packs also contain information about the town, the Thursday Market, the Wold Rangers Way walking trail and information from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The idea came from Driffield’s Town Centre Steering Group. The group, made up of independent businesses and town councillors, was launched in October 2020 with the aim of sharing ideas about how to improve Driffield town centre to attract shoppers and visitors.

Amanda Ludlam, chair of the group, said: “The idea came from our steering group meetings. We all know of new developments in Driffield and new people coming into the town and we thought it would be a good idea to give our new residents an idea of what there is available here in Driffield.

“We wanted to work with local estate agents because they know the new people coming here.
“I don’t think many other towns offer this and the quality of the packs is great and the number of businesses and organisations that have taken part is fabulous.

“It is about trying to get people using our local businesses and any businesses who are not already involved are more than welcome to join in.”

The welcome packs are available from the town council offices, the Olive Tree Spa, as well as local estate agents and they will also be going out to the marketing suites of the new housing estates in Driffield.

Town clerk Claire Binnington added: “We launched the packs as a response to the many new houses being built in Driffield and the fact that many of these new residents may have no idea about the wonderful independent businesses they have on their doorstep and what a vibrant town they have moved to.

“We hope the packs will encourage our new residents to explore what is here and use the town and its facilities and businesses.”
