Sign up for On Yer Bike sportive event

Charity cyclists are gearing up to take part in this year’s popular ‘On Yer Bike for Macmillan’ sportive which will take place this June.

The annual event will see 180 cyclists saddle up to raise money to support people affected by cancer living in the East Riding.

Organised by the East Riding Macmillan fundraising committee, the fun event will return to its mid-summer date taking place on Sunday 18th June.

Setting off from the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School in Southburn, cyclists will follow one of two routes – either 25 or 50 miles – taking in the scenic countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds.

Last year, the event raised more than £7,000 and organisers Sharon Falkingham and Alison Johnson are hoping that this year’s event will be just as successful.

Sharon told the Wolds Weekly: “We are delighted that the On Yer Bike for Macmillan cycle ride will be back again this year and it will return to its usual mid-summer date taking place on Father’s Day, Sunday 18th June.

“We have two routes available – one 25-mile and the other 50-mile – both setting off the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School.

“We have places for 180 riders, and we have had a really good response so far and entries are going really well.

“The cycle ride is always very well supported and last year in total we raised over £7,000 so we have set a target of £5,000 for this year which we hope we can meet.

“All of the money raised by the East Riding committee stays locally to support people affected by cancer.

“We would like to thank the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School for allowing us the use of its facilities and to all of our local sponsors.

“If anyone would like to provide sponsorship or donate, it would be gratefully received, and details can be found on the On Yer Bike for Macmillan Facebook page.”

Entry for the sportive is £35 to include a raffle ticket and bacon or sausage sandwich and cakes on completion.

The route will be signposted and marshalled, with feed stations along the way.

Entry can be made by visiting the On Yer Bike for Macmillan’s Facebook page.
